Located in the Town of Brookline, our beloved Putterham has served golfers dating all the way back to its inception in 1933.  For generations, many in the community have enjoyed this beautiful parkland green space, on a golden-age course designed by Wayne Styles and Jon VanKleek. 

Complimenting the green space lies an urban forest historically known as Putterham Woods.  This forest once served the town as a tree farm, with a prolific planting of hemlocks. The trees that flourished at Putterham were then transplanted throughout town. 

The golf course itself is sited among the peaks and valleys of the natural terrain. Greens sit up high on the hills, on 30 feet of ledge in some places, while the fairways sit down low in the meadows. The course is designed to be enjoyable for both novice and experienced golfers.

Another jewel in the crown is Hemlock Grill.  Located on the main floor of our clubhouse, Hemlock Grill offers delicious lighter fare for breakfast, lunch or dinner to hungry golfers and the general public.  Led by Executive Chef Alex Sáenz, Hemlock’s menu includes BBQ from the smoker and their award-winning fried chicken.

Until 2025, use of the facility was limited to golf season, usually spring to mid-fall. Golf course management and the Brookline Recreation Department embarked on a plan to increase the use of the facility over all four seasons and be more fully integrated into the community. The result was the launch of a winter snow sports program, offering cross-country skiing and snowshoeing on the property, as well as an assortment of community events such as summer concerts on Friday nights on the Hemlock patio and our annual fall HarvestFest.

Today, we continue our efforts to be the finest example of municipal golf in the area, as well as fostering a “home away from home” way of life for our neighbors in Brookline and the surrounding communities. Together, as we navigate the future, it is with a single focus: Our core is golf, our mission is community. We invite you to join us in enjoying all four seasons at beautiful Putterham.
