  • Report: Kobe Bryant to Undergo Surgery to Repair Pinkie
    According to a report on ESPN.com, "Lakers guard Kobe Bryant announced Monday he will undergo surgery to repair ligament damage in his right pinkie finger. Bryant plans to reveal the news on his Web site, kb24.com, at some point and specify the date he intends to have the procedure."

  • NBA TV Marks 10 Year Anniversary With New Interactive ‘Fan Night'
    Turner Sports and the NBA announced today the 2008-09 NBA TV regular season game telecast schedule, marking the network's 10th year of NBA coverage. The schedule includes a full line-up of 96 live games .

  • NBA TV to Give Fans Right to Vote
    In MEDIA WEEK, Mike Shields reports "The National Basketball Association will once a week allow fans to vote on which games are televised during the upcoming season on NBA TV. Dubbed Fan Night, starting on Tuesday Oct. 28 fans can log onto NBA.com and vote for which game will be broadcast on the following Tuesday. The interactive fan vote will continue to decide which league game is televised on Tuesdays throughout the season (NBA TV will showcase a total of 96 games this year)."

  • Report: Zach Randolph Expects To Be A Grizzly
    In NEWSDAY, Alan Hahn reports, "Zach Randolph is telling friends that he's expecting to be traded before training camp and the destination he believes it will be is Memphis. Walsh likes the idea of getting Darko Milicic back in the trade because of Milicic's shot-blocking ability. He has averaged 1.3 per game in the NBA and he does possess a good shooting touch. "

  • Redd Enjoys Golden Moment; Says Cavs Fans Will Like Williams
    In the CANTON REPOSITORY, Mike Popovich writes, "Michael Redd still savors the moment he became a gold medal winner. The feeling, the pride the former Ohio State guard has — it's as clear as the passion the U.S. Olympic men's basketball team played with last month in Beijing. 'It was something I'll never forget and always cherish,' Redd said."

  • Storm Sets Franchise Record with 96-88 Win Over Lynx
    From the NEWS TRIBUNE, "Sue Bird had 21 of her 23 points in the second half and the Seattle Storm rallied from a 13-point deficit to beat the Minnesota Lynx, 96-88, Saturday night. Seattle (21-10), which secured its fifth straight playoff berth two nights earlier, set a franchise record for wins and moved one game ahead of idle San Antonio atop the Western Conference with three games remaining. Five Seattle players scored in double figures as the Storm topped its previous win total set in 2004 and matched in 2005. Tanisha Wright and Swin Cash scored 17 points each as Seattle improved its league-best home record to 15-1. Camille Little added 16 points and Yolanda Griffith had 11."

    In the BOSTON HERALD, O'Ryan Johnson writes "Twenty-two years ago the NBA and Boston Celtics legend Thomas "Satch"Sanders formed a crash course for rookie basketball players - essentially Celebrity 101 - where they learned to handle the kinds of crises that were sending many new hoop stars off the cliff. Money, plus single women, plus hero worship from fans, was adding up to trouble, Sanders said. Things like having only two tickets to the NBA Finals and two dozen people, from the guy who first coached you, to your girlfriend, to your parents begging for seats."

  • Decision Looms for Kings' Abdur-Rahim
    In the SACRAMENTO BEE, Sam Amick writes "Reality will set in soon for Shareef Abdur-Rahim. His body, as he said when the comeback from December knee surgery began in earnest two months ago, will decide for him. The right knee, which was operated on for the second time in six months, will determine whether he takes part in October training camp. If not, retirement – and possibly a coaching career – could be on the horizon."

    So, will the son also rise in New York? Patrick Ewing hopes so, though he stresses there are many differences between himself, a newly-minted Hall of Fame center, and his 24-year-old son, Patrick, Jr., who was a second-round pick in June and already since traded twice.
